Job DescriptionSUMMARY: Provides instruction in curricular areas to students in a 6th grade classroom.

- Develop and implement programming associated with all content areas for middle school students.
- Support and implement the district curriculum, standards, and benchmarks.
- Assist school staff with strategies to support and meet students' needs and achievement of academic goals.
- Provide active communication and positive relationships with parents and community members.
- Assist in planning and delivery of school-wide social, emotional, and behavioral programming.
- Collaborate with the principal, school counselor, staff, parents, and students on matters pertaining to teaching and learning.
- Maintain appropriate records and protect the confidentiality of data.
- Meet the 8 Iowa Teaching Standards and 42 criteria consistently.
- Report to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Education required.
- Experience in classroom teaching upper elementary preferred.
- Proficiency in reading, analyzing, interpreting, and implementing ideas from technical documents, assessment data, professional journals, and regulations.
- Strong written communication skills for reports and communications to students, colleagues, parents, and staff.
- Effective oral presentation skills and the ability to answer questions from administrators, teachers, staff, and students.
- Ability to assist students in language and literacy areas.
- Basic mathematical proficiency: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, decimals, and fractions.
- Ability to solve problems effectively and interpret various instructions.
- Belief that all children can attain high levels of learning.
- Responsibility for the learning of students and personal performance.
- Collaborative teamwork skills and integrity.
- Track record of success.
- Interest in facing and addressing today’s educational challenges.
Iowa Teaching Certification with an endorsement in the required content area.

- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community.
- Speak clearly and concisely in oral and written communication.
- Perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
Frequent standing, walking, use of hands to handle or feel objects, talking, hearing, squatting, stooping, kneeling, reaching, bending, twisting, and lifting/moving up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus while supervising students and working with computers and written materials.
Work EnvironmentQuiet noise level; requires professional working hours possibly extending beyond an 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. schedule. Frequent work in various classroom areas, indoors or outdoors supervising students.
