5th Grade Science/Social Studies Teacher - St Joseph Catholic School

Xavier Catholic Schools is seeking a contracted 5th Grade Science/Social Studies Teacher for the 2027‑2028 school year.

Plan, organize and implement an instructional program in an elementary learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their potential.

• Bachelor of Arts degree in Education or related field
• Certification with the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners in teaching and the appropriate subject area
• Practicing Catholic preferred
• Enthusiastic supporter of Catholic faith and schools
• In‑depth knowledge of teaching methods and legal educational procedures
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
• Proficient in the use of educational technology

• Maintain required trainings as required by the State of Iowa, Archdiocese, and local site
• Adhere to teaching standards
• Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning
• Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment
• Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction
• Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures
• Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school
• Provide appropriate feedback on work
• Participate in problem‑solving processes to ensure needs of students are being met
• Differentiate instruction to address the needs of individual students
• Maintain accurate and complete records of students’ progress and development
• Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws and school policies
• Participate in department, school, and parent meetings
• Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and needs
• Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities
• Prepare classroom for class activities
• Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities
• Assign and grade class work, homework, tests and assignments
• Maintain confidentiality with work‑related matters
• Promote positive public relations through interactions with the community
• Work collaboratively with the school principal, Booster Club, Parent Association as needed
• Work toward continuous quality improvement including the use of new technologies and equipment
• Uphold, support, and promote all school policies and procedures
• Accept and provide effective supervision, assignments, changes and corrections
