Become part of the growing Collins Aerospace Core Systems and Libraries team. This position is for a highly experienced and motivated Engineering Manager involved in the architecture, design, implementation, verification, and integration of next generation software products with open architecture concepts and civil certification. You will lead with best practice design methodologies and emerging technologies to develop the next generation of Avionics Products.
The ideal candidate will understand software development practices, military/commercial certification, and have experience leading execution teams.
What You Will Do- Technical direction:
Lead a team and apply sound engineering principles related to software development meeting civil certification requirements. - Project management:
Guide team members in scope, schedule, and budget for engineering design activities to meet program milestones and budgets; may include Earned Value and Risk Management. - Process management:
Guide the use of design and development processes and certification activities to ensure alignment with established processes. - Bids and proposals:
Lead, review, and provide guidance on bid and proposal activities. - Personnel administration:
Make hiring decisions, performance assessments, manage personnel issues, develop personnel to achieve career growth, and build a highly engaged team. - Occasional travel may be needed.
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years of experience, or an Advanced Degree with minimum 7 years of experience.
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.
- Experience in functional and/or project leadership for Software or FPGA developments (in certification environments) with cost and schedule responsibility and strong background in Earned Value Management.
- Willingness to travel (domestic and international).
- Adaptable and emotionally flexible to changes in assignments, responsibilities, and resources.
- Highly self-motivated with the ability to establish a positive work environment.
- Self-starter with strong analytical and communication skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and dedication to team success.
- Excellent organizational skills with ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Ability to evaluate and report engineering performance to plan; analyze data to address program problems before they impact the program.
- Ability to generate and maintain staffing plans including recruiting, hiring and onboarding.
- Ability to coach, mentor, and train other engineers.
- Experience with DO-178 development and verification processes.
- Experience with Flight Management Systems, Software, Aircraft Applications or Middleware.
- Experience with Agile and Waterfall development strategies.
- Experience with vendors, verification tools, and lab integration/testing knowledge.

Onsite details:
This role is primarily onsite. Regardless of role type, collaboration and innovation are essential to the business, and employees have access to digital tools and to Collins sites when in-person meetings are required.
