Become part of the growing Collins Aerospace Core Systems and Libraries team! This position is for a highly experienced and motivated Principal Project Engineer that will be involved in the architecture, design, implementation, verification, and integration of a wide variety of next generation software products that incorporate open architecture design concepts with civil certification. As a project engineer in this organization, you will be employing best practice project management methodologies and utilizing emerging technologies to develop the next generation of Avionics Products, truly defining the future of aerospace.

The ideal candidate will have a good understanding of software development practices, military/commercial certification, and experience leading execution teams. This is an onsite position based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

• Lead the Pursuit, Proposal, Planning and execution of Design and Development Projects for software products
• Develop project and program strategies to advance the Software Engineering discipline and products, specifically working with program management on product roadmaps
• Ensure alignment to program, product line, and corporate goals while meeting certification requirements up to and including DO-178 DAL

• Communicate with a wide variety of individuals including Engineering, Program Management, Internal Leadership, Supply Chain, Operations, Service Centers, and Customers

• You will learn all phases of the software product life cycle from requirements to verification, while employing the company engineering processes to produce high quality products.
• You will learn the requirements for product certification required by federal agencies.
• You will learn how to establish and maintain a software product line with a broad base of customers.

• Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years.
• U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

• Experience with leading in FPGA/ASIC or software product development efforts.
• Experience leading technical projects including customer interaction, and briefing leadership.
• Experience with DO-178 certification activities (DAL A preferred).
• Experience with interfacing with the wide spectrum of individual contributors to program management and customers.
• Willingness to travel (domestic and international)

• Experience with Change Management, Earned Value Management and Lifecycle Program Management
• Experience with Microsoft Project, Subversion, Jira, Jama, DOORS, and other program management tools.
• Experience using software design, verification, simulation and/or vendor specific tools.
