Overview

The Global Filter Engineering Intern will report to the Engineering Manager and will be based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The Engineering Intern will be responsible for working with the Engineering, Product Management, Quality, and Operations functions to ensure projects and daily activities are supported. They play a pivotal role in Global Filter's success by executing various action items needed with regards to engineering, quality control, and operations.

The Engineering Intern will have a strong desire to learn the Global Filter product portfolio, ERP systems, engineering best practices, data analytics, and the Quality Control processes.

The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated quick learner with a strong bias for action. The candidate will possess a customer-centric mindset, sound communication skills, analytical skills, and the attention to detail necessary to ensure accurate data and information is provided. The person must be able to support Engineering, Quality, and Operations processes with an exceptional attitude, entrepreneurial mindset, and a team-player focus to effectively collaborate with all internal teams.

Responsibilities

* Collaborate with Engineers and the Operations team to assist in the design, evaluation, and optimization of manufacturing systems, equipment, and processes.

* Work hands-on with manufacturing technologies and equipment, supporting data analysis and problem-solving initiatives.

* Assist in designing tools and fixtures using Solid Works, ensuring accuracy and functionality.

* Actively participate in lean manufacturing initiatives, including value stream mapping, process flow optimization, and waste reduction projects.

* Contribute to process improvement projects aimed at enhancing efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.

* Develop and maintain engineering documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Bill of Materials (BOMs), and Engineering Drawings.

* Utilize various testing and measurement equipment to validate that products meet or exceed customer expectations.

* Support the Quality department by assisting with supplier quality control initiatives, such as inspections, audits, and defect analysis.

* Take on additional engineering projects based on business needs and personal interest.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

* Proficiency in Solid Works for creating 2D and 3D part files.

* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive, hands-on approach.

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills for technical reports and cross-functional collaboration.

* Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively to the Engineering and Operations team.

* Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects.

* Adaptability to changing business needs and willingness to take on challenges.

* Basic understanding of lean manufacturing principles and a commitment to continuous improvement.

* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word).

Qualifications

* Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

* Previous internship or project experience in a manufacturing or industrial engineering environment is a plus.

* Understanding engineering and quality control best practices.

* Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and process optimization techniques.
