TRC is seeking highly motivated and diverse Gas/Utility Engineer Interns for our CO-OP/FULL TIME program out of our Cedar Rapids, IA Office. This is a paid full-time position. This is an entry-level position with the ideal candidate having 0-2 years of experience and an Engineer in Training (EIT) certification. Undergraduate degrees in Civil or Mechanical Engineering are desired. This position has the potential to transition into a Full-Time role upon graduation.
The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Project Managers and Team Leaders and partner with engineers, scientists, and technologists.
Responsibilities
* Performs routine engineering calculations and prepares sketches for a specific segment of a project.
* Gathers information for and assists in the preparation of technical specifications and material requisitions.
* Organizes and tracks various project activities i.e. material requisitions, vendor submittals etc.
* Reviews vendor drawings and bids to determine compliance with specifications.
* Prepares information to be shown on drawings and reviews drawings when completed.
* Gathers, organizes and maintains data sets for specific segments of a project.
* Proficient with discipline specific software packages.
* Undertakes assignments that require some independent work and responsibilities.
* Participates in project cost estimating.
* Interfaces with the design/drafting group.
* Interfaces with client's engineering representatives.
* Prepares bid documents for materials, engineered equipment, and construction within specific discipline.
* Responsible for preparation and review of material requisitions.
* Prepares technical report sections and correspondence for approval.
* Assist in the preparation of man-hour and project cost estimates and schedules both internal and for the client.
* Undertake multiple tasks and interface with other disciplines to obtain information to complete the tasks.
* Assist with vendor inspection, startup, and commissioning.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
* A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Technology from an ABET accredited engineering school.
* EIT certification is highly desired
* Minimum 0-2 years of gas utility experience
* Requires good communication skills.
* Must be able to write clearly and concisely to prepare reports, specifications and correspondence for approval.
* Mathematical skills required for completion of a Bachelor's degree in engineering.
* Able to identify problems, propose solutions and seek guidance from more experienced engineers.
* Need to possess a valid driver's license with a safe driving history required.
* Organizational skills.
* Ability to work in a Project Management team environment.
* Adapts approach and considers what is important to the audience and tailors message accordingly.
* Takes personal responsibility for correcting problems promptly.
* Proactively makes changes to improve performance.
* Possesses positive expectations for team members and expresses regard for them.
* Is receptive to change and mentoring.
* Experienced in spreadsheet and word processing.
* Strong attention to details.
* Ability to work flexible hours, occasionally in excess of a normal schedule.
* Ability to travel as dictated by job requirements.
