Senior Software Engineer - Autonomy (Onsite)
Collins Aerospace, an RTX company, leads the aerospace and defense industry with advanced solutions. The Collaborative Mission Autonomy (CMA) department in Collins Mission Systems seeks a dynamic Software Engineer to develop and mature mission‑enabling autonomy capabilities for Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) in the Guidance, Navigation, Control (GNC) and CMA business area.
Location and Security ClearanceOnsite at one of the following locations:
Ft Wayne, IN;
McKinney, TX;
Cedar Rapids, IA; or El Segundo, CA. U.S. citizenship required; ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance required (active clearance after day
1).
- Deploy and test software builds on embedded Linux systems.
- Integrate hardware and software, troubleshoot networking and system configuration, including IP‑stack protocols, serial and RF communications, GPS, and Linux router/switch management.
- Manage integration lab environments and network architecture; lead and coordinate small teams, including technical, cost, and schedule aspects.
- Support on‑site integration at customer and third‑party facilities; occasional travel up to 10% required.
- STEM degree with at least 5 years relevant experience, or an advanced degree with at least 3 years, or, absent a degree, 9 years of experience.
- Capability to obtain a U.S. Department of Defense security clearance.
- Experience with build tools/IDEs (CMake, make, Visual Studio, VS Code, etc.) and development workflow tools (JIRA, Git, Subversion, Docker). Proficiency in object‑oriented programming using C++ or Java.
- Leadership experience and familiarity with Dev Sec Ops tools; server management a plus.
- Experience with containers, virtualization, simulation, and HMI/GUI development.
- Knowledge of DoD open systems architecture and protocols (FACE, JCA, HOST, OMS, SOSA).

Salary range: $86,800 - $165,200 USD. Benefits and compensation may vary by business unit and collective‑bargaining agreement.
