Mid Level Electrical Engineer – Mestek Machinery, Inc.

Cedar Rapids, IA.

Job Description

In a global market, design, develop, and manage projects to completion, on time and within budget, ranging from small scale to high visibility projects to improve products and processes.

The ideal candidate will be self‑motivated, eager to learn new skills, and comfortable working on larger projects spanning weeks or months as well as fast turnaround projects requiring a couple of hours or days.

Essential Duties
  • Safely operate, design, and debug process and automation control systems, and source and recommend appropriate vendors.
  • Develop master plans, automation strategy, and software configuration, and troubleshoot complex issues.
  • Collaborate with the Engineering Manager to establish and enforce design, change‑control, and documentation standards for electrical engineering activities.
  • Write, debug, and maintain PLC code and device drivers; program MMI devices and design interface circuitry.
  • Determine power, load requirements, and restrictions; design logic systems for sequence and timing control.
  • Draft cable connection diagrams; create processes and controls for design verification.
  • Develop quality testing procedures and tools.
  • Take complete ownership and responsibility for projects.
  • Identify performance issues on equipment, perform root‑cause analysis, and suggest solutions.
  • Brainstorm and critique designs during whiteboard sessions and contribute to product development.
  • Collaborate closely with multi‑disciplinary teams (mechanical, electrical, software, controls, etc.).
  • Assist with equipment and material test studies.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Preferred Experience
  • BSEE or BSME with 3–5+ years in industrial automation.
  • Knowledge of current technology and applicable electrical codes (UL, CSA, CE).
  • Proficiency with major PLC brands and control devices (AB, Siemens, B&R).
  • Understanding of electromechanical relations in an entire automation system.
  • Motivation to improve engineering procedures.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Excellent technical, communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge and interpretation of code compliance requirements and industry standards.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and in a highly collaborative team.
  • Experience with machine shops (welding, milling, turning, sheet metal).
  • Knowledge of 3D CAD software—Autodesk Inventor (preferred), Solid Works, or others.
