Position
Senior Manager, Software Engineering – Cedar Rapids, IA
Rockwell Collins Inc. d/b/a Collins Aerospace is seeking an experienced leader to manage a team of up to 20 software engineers involved in avionics system development. The role may require up to 4 international trips per year.
Responsibilities- Lead engineering team and drive evolution of team processes, methods, skillsets, tools, and technology while supporting Collin's process methodologies.
- Develop and promote a unified vision for the department in collaboration with leadership, fostering employee engagement, empowerment, setting project priorities, managing staffing, and providing technical leadership.
- Identify efficiencies, share resources, and support development of best practices.
- Make strategic decisions and communicate objectives, approach, and status to stakeholders of varying technical backgrounds.
- Lead and coordinate program‑level cost estimates during the bid and proposal cycle.
- Estimate, track, and communicate cost, schedule, and risk to support pursuit/program metrics.
- Oversee and operate within budgets.
- Develop and enact resource demand plans aligned with multiple VSLs.
- Continuously improve team performance by assigning resources to projects, setting and evaluating goals, coaching, and managing compensation, recognition, and awards.
- Supervise a staff of 20, including Senior Principal Engineer, Principal Engineer, Senior Engineer, Engineer II, Engineer I, and Software Engineer positions.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field plus at least 10 years progressive experience as a Software Engineer or related role, or a master's degree plus at least 7 years experience.
- At least 4 years experience with DO‑178C certification.
- At least 4 years experience with avionics systems/software life‑cycle activities, including requirements, architecture, design, model‑based development, coding, integration, verification, validation, and system testing.
- At least 4 years experience in or leading teams that develop real‑time embedded software applications using C or C++.
- At least 3 years proven experience in project planning and execution leadership for moderate‑to large‑sized teams, delivering on cost, schedule, scope, and quality commitments.
- Non‑U.S. person must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
- Security clearance not required.
