Principal Systems Engineer – Onsite (U.S. Citizen, U.S. Person) – Cedar Rapids, IA
Collins Aerospace, an RTX company, is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer to design and develop secure military communication systems. The role requires a U.S. government issued Secret security clearance and is based in Cedar Rapids, IA.
Responsibilities- Conduct architecture and design at all levels of the total system product, including concept, design, fabrication, modeling, test, installation, operation, maintenance, and disposal.
- Carry out functional analyses, trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
- Provide analyses for decomposing customer specifications and system‑level requirements into subsystem and piece‑part requirements, and develop verification criteria and plans.
- Oversee technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, supportability, and effectiveness analyses for total system solutions.
- Lead bid and proposal efforts.
- Perform daily tasks in a classified and controlled lab environment. Travel up to 10%.
- Technical leadership experience, mentorship opportunities, and exposure to influential individuals within Mission Systems.
- Experience working with subject matter experts, security and crypto certification specialists, and cross‑functional product teams.
- Knowledge of security‑hardened products and evolving business and product domains.
- Typically a STEM degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience or an advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience.
- Experience with the systems development process: requirements capture, design, decomposition, integration, verification/validation, and transition to production.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued Secret security clearance.
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for security clearance.
- Active and transferable Secret U.S. government issued security clearance before start date.
- Experience working in an Agile environment.
- Exceptional communication skills, experience presenting technical data to program management and executive leadership.
- Experience with tools such as DOORS, CAMEO, or similar.
- Experience with software languages such as Rust and Python.
- Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering.
