West Plains offers a unique career opportunity in a part of the country that has an outstanding and stable economic climate, not to mention one of the best lifestyles out there. We have the resources to allow our staff to be competitive in their field, while challenging themselves for professional growth and development. We’re also proud to foster an environment of learning, teaching and mentoring, which extends beyond our offices and into the communities we serve.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position reports to the Office Manager, while oftentimes working with a Project Manager on a specific project. A Professional Engineering license is mandatory for this position. This position will involve the mentoring, guidance, and oversight of all Mechanical Design Staff within a particular Office / Division. In addition to the staff, this position will also provide the oversight and design of all aspects of the HVAC, Plumbing and in some cases the Fire Protection systems for the project.

The Department Head will function much like our Project Engineer to work with other design staff to complete all electrical related tasks necessary to the success of the project.

At WPE our Department Heads will also oversee the scheduling and project assignment of the Design and Project Design level staff, as well as cross training all our other staff to provide for a more knowledgeable project team. Tasks range from initial analysis to schematic design and throughout the construction process. Work in a self‑paced environment providing guidance to other staff within WPE.

Must be open and willing to learn from those staff members as freely as you teach them. Tasks requiring your effort or oversight might include running heating/cooling load analysis, equipment sizing/selection, sizing piping and ductwork, writing project specifications, studies/analysis. Additionally, you will be serving as the WPE contact with the clients and other stakeholders on multiple projects at one time.

You will work with teams both internal and external to the firm to develop projects through all phases of design and construction. The types of projects will vary in both size and complexity based on our client needs and your capabilities. At WPE, our Department Heads may be the Engineer of Record for our projects and responsible charge of all work within their discipline on a project.

As such, our Department Heads provide a great deal of oversight and mentoring of staff of all levels. This requires a highly organized, focused and motivated individual.

WPE will provide you with the mentoring, training and tools to aid your continued growth in the Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing (MEP) design services industry. Within this position, the expectation is that you will learn or teach something every day you come to work. You will share your knowledge of the assembly of construction documents, bidding/procurement process and the construction administration phase of the project with the other staff.

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) and previous experience in engineering. The applicant must demonstrate knowledge and experience in mechanical building systems, the ability to lead and mentor project technical staff, strong communication skills and proven ability to develop project plans and manage schedules and budgets.
