Principal Systems Engineer – Avionics
Location: Cedar Rapids, IA (On‑site)
Position Type: Onsite
What You Will Do:- Provide technical leadership throughout all phases of the system development lifecycle, including requirements capture, system design and modeling, hardware/software integration, and system validation and verification.
- Coach, review, and delegate work to junior system engineers.
- Coordinate with cross‑domain teams to realize a functional system.
- Identify and implement process, system, and product improvements to enhance performance and efficiency.
- Work with external customers to document operational scenarios, develop system requirements, define interfaces, and perform validation testing.
- Collaborate with engineers to document derived requirements, define internal interfaces, develop architectures, integrate components, and conduct verification.
- Develop processes, templates, and work instructions to maintain desired quality.
- University degree in STEM (minimum 8 years relevant experience) or advanced degree with minimum 5 years experience.
- Experience with avionics or other aircraft system development and certification.
- Rapid acquisition of technical domain knowledge and contribution to complex architecture design.
- Systems engineering experience (requirements, test, validation, and verification).
- Familiarity with ARP
4754A/B, DO‑178B/C, and/or DO‑297. - Integration of complex systems.
- Experience with Agile and engineering process tools such as JIRA, JAMA, Subversion/Git Hub.
- Collaborative mindset in matrixed or cross‑functional environments.
- Strong written and oral communication; ability to influence policies and procedures.
- Experienced coaching of lower‑level professionals.
- Self‑motivated, capable of prioritizing multiple tasks.
