Job Overview

Collins Aerospace is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer with a passion for avionics to work as part of the Program Systems Engineering team in the Business & Regional Avionics department. The role requires regular on‑site work in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and involves execution of the program life cycle, including design, verification, and certification activities.

What You Will Do
  • Perform all phases of the system development lifecycle including requirements capture, system design and modeling, integration with hardware and software components, system validation, and verification.
  • Work with external customers to document operational scenarios, develop system requirements, define system interfaces, and perform system validation testing.
  • Collaborate with other engineers to document derived requirements, define internal system interfaces, develop system architectures, integrate system components, and perform system verification.
  • Identify and recommend process, system, and product improvements to enhance performance and improve efficiency.
Qualifications You Must Have
  • Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with a minimum of 3 years of experience.
  • Experience with avionics or other aircraft system development and certification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to quickly acquire technical domain knowledge and contribute to the design of sophisticated architectural systems.
  • Systems Engineering experience covering requirements, test, validation, & verification.
  • Familiarity with ARP
    4754A/B, DO-178B/C, and/or DO-297.
  • Experience integrating complex systems.
  • Experience with Agile and engineering process tools such as JIRA, JAMA, and Subversion/Git Hub.
  • Collaborative, matrixed work style across multiple teams.
  • Strong written and oral communication and change‑making skills.
  • Experience coaching lower‑level professionals and influencing others regarding policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Self‑starter who can prioritize multiple tasks.

Salary Range

86,800 USD – 165,200 USD (based on experience).

Work Environment

Onsite. Employees working in onsite roles perform all production and maintenance tasks essential to product development.
