Position:
Senior Principal Systems Engineer – Open Platform Application Software (OPAS) team at Collins Aerospace (RTX). Focus on avionics and systems engineering within the FACE environment.
- Conduct technical management and design review preparation and execution.
- Analyze and derive requirements, predict performance, allocate system‑level requirements to lower‑level requirements, and manage requirements throughout the lifecycle.
- Manage technical performance of program teams (5–10 members), plan incremental development of upgrades and system improvements.
- Prepare and maintain project plans, budgets, and staffing requirements to ensure action items and quality expectations are met.
- Motivate the team to deliver customer milestones and deliverables, interfacing with management, suppliers, customers, and the technical design team.
- Provide timely and effective communication to management and customers.
- Engage in engineering activities: design, development, procurement, testing, and provide technical and functional leadership for assigned components, projects, teams, and tasks.
- Plan and maintain detailed schedule and resource plans.
- Lead technology‑development programs, guiding products through the Technology Readiness Level process.
- Understand and demonstrate adherence to FACE and DO/178 technical standards.
- Lead system‑development teams to analyze, develop models, requirements, software, and designs using enterprise standard tools and processes.
- Execute systems engineering tasks and troubleshoot complex embedded software applications, hardware, LRU’s, and system-of-systems environments.
- Manage technical risks and develop mitigation plans.
- Establish trusted relationships with customers, support staff, and suppliers.
- Mentor and develop junior engineers.
- Travel domestically up to 20% of the time.
- Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with at least 7 years of relevant experience.
- Experience with systems engineering leadership in an agile environment.
- Strong understanding of end‑to‑end systems architecture governance and design principles.
- Expertise in systems engineering and open systems architectures.
- Experience with operations concept development, system and product design, model & requirements management.
- Technical risk management, interface definition and control.
- Experience with aircraft‑level system integration; development of integration and test plans, test cases, and procedures.
- Experience executing product and system‑level tests, including automation test tools or scripting.
- Experience with Model‑Based Systems Engineering concepts and tools such as Magic Draw, CAMEO, Rhapsody, Enterprise Architect.
- Experience in technical proposal writing, make/buy decision‑making, and trade study.
- Demonstrated ability to work and communicate with all levels of management and individual contributors.
- Domestic travel up to 20% of the time.

Salary range: $132,400 – $251,600 (USD).
