Sr. Project Engineer - Avionics Test Engineering

Overview

The Collins Aerospace Avionics Test Engineering organization is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to lead multidisciplinary teams of engineers—including systems, mechanical, electrical, and software disciplines—to develop complex engineering solutions. The role involves designing, developing, and maintaining manufacturing test solutions for the $5B Avionics strategic business unit and external customers such as armed services and airlines worldwide.

• Lead project technical execution and maintain performance metrics for decision making and continuous improvement.
• Manage project scope (requirements and change requests) ensuring it meets agreed commitments.
• Generate and maintain project schedules with clear dependencies, deliveries, and critical path.
• Utilize Earned Value (EV) methods for managing project budget and schedule.
• Ensure project meets quality expectations.
• Identify risks and opportunities and resolve them through proactive ownership.
• Prepare well‑crafted presentations reporting project status to leadership teams.
• Develop engineering estimates and proposals for potential projects and gain organizational buy‑in.

• Typical requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years of prior relevant experience; or an advanced degree in a related field with minimum 3 years of experience.
• U.S. citizenship is required.

• Experience leading projects.
• Sound technical knowledge in at least one engineering discipline: systems, mechanical, electrical, or software.
• Organizational and time‑management skills to execute multiple active projects.
• Proficiency with developing and maintaining schedules using Microsoft Project.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective customer relationships.
• Outstanding oral, written, and formal presentation communication skills.
