Position Summary
Microelectronics Packaging Engineer II at Collins Aerospace, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The role is onsite and requires U.S. citizenship and a current DoD Secret security clearance. It focuses on leading moderately sized projects and driving microelectronics packaging innovation from concept through production. The ideal candidate is a Mechanical or Electrical Engineer with strong technical skills and a passion for miniaturized electronic devices.
Responsibilities- Coordinate and execute research and development activities in a laboratory environment.
- Packaging conceptualization and technology development.
- Lead and execute moderately sized projects.
- Prototype build & evaluation, qualification testing, and factory transition.
- Support manufacturing through failure analysis and process development.
- Root cause failure analysis on circuit card assemblies.
- Degree in a STEM field with at least 2 years of relevant experience or an advanced degree in a related field.
- U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government‑issued security clearance.
- Mechanical design and analysis to meet severe environmental system requirements.
- Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Solid Works).
- Working knowledge of structural, dynamic, and thermal analysis tools (e.g., ANSYS).
- Comfortable working on defense industry programs and products.
- Microelectronics design and manufacturing assembly experience.
- Knowledge of microelectronics packaging materials and properties.
- Experience with additive manufacturing for electronics (e.g., Aerosol Jet).
- Flip‑chip experience, including development and design.
- Understanding of RF/high‑speed digital signal integrity.
- Ability to decompose mechanical requirements to support design efforts.
- Experience with cost accounting and schedule management.
- Ability to read, understand, and review basic electrical schematics and circuit board layouts.
- Teamwork skills and collaboration with mechanical, electrical, and systems engineers.
