Position: Engineer II, Electrical Engineer (Onsite)

Job Overview

The Environmental Effects Engineering (EEE) organization at Collins Aerospace is seeking a motivated Electrical Engineer to support the Nuclear Effects Survivability Team’s efforts.

In this role, you’ll work across key stages of the product lifecycle, including requirements development, electrical design, hardware integration, and test verification/validation. You will independently manage multiple projects and technical tasks, and will be required to travel domestically up to 25% with some foreign travel possible.

Security Clearance

U.S. citizenship is required. The candidate must obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued DoD Top Secret security clearance.

Responsibilities
  • Planning, executing, and supporting nuclear radiation characterization testing of electronics used in radio and display systems.
  • Conduct parts‑level, circuit‑level, and system‑level radiation effects testing (TID, NDD, DR, SEE).
  • Prepare clear, well‑supported technical documentation and contribute to design reviews.
  • Advising on risk mitigation strategies as part of a cross‑disciplinary team.
  • Develop test plans and reports.
  • Lead program personnel through test procedures to meet cost and schedule constraints.
  • Perform radiation effects testing events alongside experienced engineers at external facilities.
  • Serve as a technical reference and subject‑matter expert on radiation effects on electrical devices.
  • Drive improvements to Collins’ radiation test capabilities in alignment with industry best practices.
Qualifications You Must Have
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. DoD Top Secret Security Clearance.
  • Degree in STEM or advanced degree in related field with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience.
  • Electrical testing experience: test design, troubleshooting, execution, analysis, and test report writing.
  • Circuit design experience: schematic analysis, PCB layout, and design guidance.
  • Experience with semiconductor devices such as MOSFETs, DC/DC converters, FPGAs, and DDR memory components.
  • Experience with radiation effects testing and data interpretation.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics.
  • Ability to manage tasks and meet cost, schedule, and performance objectives with minimal oversight.
Qualifications We Prefer
  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Physics or related field.
  • Knowledge of digital design techniques and RF concepts or RF test equipment.
  • Hands‑on troubleshooting skills with engineering lab equipment (oscilloscopes, signal generators, power meters).
  • Experience developing test automation using LabVIEW or Python.
  • Understanding of semiconductor device operation and basic nuclear physics concepts relevant to electronic parts.
  • Experience performing statistical reduction and interpretation of test data.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Travel

Domestic travel up to 25%. Some foreign travel may be required.
