Manufacturing Engineer I

The Manufacturing Engineer I position provides production and manufacturing support in the areas of tooling, fixture design, machinery maintenance, cost analysis, and the implementation and documentation of process improvements.

Key Responsibilities

Results | 50%

  • Collaborates, designs, and leads the implementation of production tooling, jigs and fixtures with an emphasis on maximizing utilization, efficiency of capital equipment, quality, and product throughput.
  • Leads manufacturing projects related to tooling, equipment, and processes. Suggests design features of new product introduction to aid in manufacturing.
  • Provides technical expertise and leadership to ensure that shop floor problems are resolved based on sound engineering concepts.

Productivity / Job Knowledge | 50%

  • Recommends, documents, and implements functional manufacturing processes regarding new and existing products.
  • Specifies, obtains, and manages any outside purchased items, design services, build services and the associated costs and communication of the costs that are needed to support operations.
  • Communicates process changes related to design revisions, ensures appropriate level of documentation, and ensures that changes are implemented and followed.
  • Manages projects related to manufacturing, engineering, or related processes.

Requirements

Qualifications and Essential

Skills:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Agricultural Engineering with a minimum of four (4) years of experience as a manufacturing engineer, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferably, experience in a similar industrial environment (equipment production, steel fabrication, etc.) Hands-on experience with production equipment and knowledge of equipment capabilities is preferred.
  • Experience with low to medium volume tooling and fixture design, implementation, and maintenance is required. Familiarity with inspection methods, along with solid troubleshooting skills, is required.
  • Significant experience with Computer Aided Design software (Solid Works preferred) in a manufacturing setting.
  • Prior experience in the development and documentation of various processes, procedures, and standards is needed.
  • Must possess a strong understanding of fixture fundamentals and GD&T principles.
  • Computer skills to include following programs: MS Office, Word, Excel, Access, Visio. Experience working with ERP and reporting programs required.
  • Must be able to see the "big picture", hearing and understanding the needs of both production and engineering, and communicating effectively to insure that the needs of both are optimized.
