This is a part-time, on-site role for an Experienced Tax Professional located in the Iowa City–Cedar Rapids Area. The Experienced Tax Professional will meet with clients in person to gather tax-related information, analyze financial and personal data, and prepare accurate federal, state, and local tax returns. The role includes reviewing prior-year returns, identifying potential tax savings, and providing guidance on tax planning and compliance.
The professional will communicate complex tax concepts in clear, accessible language, answer client questions, and recommend appropriate H&R Block products and services. Day-to-day work also involves maintaining up-to-date knowledge of tax law changes, using H&R Block tax software and tools, and collaborating with office teammates to deliver a consistent, high-quality client experience.
- Strong tax preparation skills, including experience preparing individual and, ideally, small business or investment-related tax returns.
- Proficiency in tax planning and tax strategy to help clients minimize liabilities while remaining compliant.
- Working knowledge of tax law and regulations, with the ability to interpret and apply changes to client situations.
- Solid understanding of finance concepts related to income, deductions, credits, and basic financial documents.
- Relevant tax credentials or progress toward them (e.g., EA, CPA, JD, or state-specific tax certifications) are highly beneficial.
- Prior experience in a tax practice, accounting firm, or similar client-facing financial services environment.
- Excellent client service, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex topics clearly.
- Comfort using tax software, digital tools, and office technology; willingness to learn H&R Block systems and processes.
- Ability to work on-site during peak tax season hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
