Position: Instructional Services Coordinator (50%) - Anesthesia

Overview

The Instructional Services Coordinator provides support to the Anesthesia Instructional Services Specialist and Sim Center Director. They also assist the Quality and Operations Improvement Coordinator as it relates to simulation center activities. The role assists in implementing education, training and research programs associated with patient simulator programs and facilitates achievement of operational and safety goals through operational support and conducting simulation activities.

Responsibilities
  • Provide manikin operations for the simulation center (CAE Healthcare, Laerdal, and Gaumard) per established protocols.
  • Build new simulations into the manikin software.
  • Maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair manikins and task trainers.
  • Assist with audio/visual equipment and applications.
  • Schedule, prepare, and provide logistics and support strategies for all programs related to the patient simulation center (e.g., Patient Simulations, Perioperative Team Simulations, Skills Workshops and Team-Based Simulation Design and Debriefing).
  • Plan, coordinate, and/or conduct training classes and equipment demonstrations.
  • Coordinate Continuing Medical Education (CME) activities related to the Anesthesia Department.
  • Collect, enter, verify, format and present simulation and quality improvement statistics for faculty reviews, departmental administrative annual requirements, and Joint Commission biannual reviews.
  • Provide recommendations to identify and address root cause analysis (RCA).
  • Assist with preparing and presenting education and training programs related to simulation quality improvement, quality control, and quality assurance.
  • Assist in preparing research papers and manuscripts for publication and presentation at conferences and workshops, and in writing project reports, articles, and other documents.
  • Participate in staff conferences related to the progress of projects.
  • Participate in the development of general goals for research projects and in the planning of work related to all medical staff in training.
  • Identify supply needs, order, organize, oversee use, and repurpose outdated supplies necessary for simulation projects.
  • Maintain confidentiality related to simulation operations, events, participants, or patients.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the public.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.

Education Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree with or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience Requirements
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage small and large group interaction.
  • Must be proficient in computer software applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
Desired Qualifications
  • 1-3 years in research, biological or a medical specialty.
  • 6 months - 1 year administrative, program, or teaching (developing teaching material).
  • Strong working knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Experience in anatomy and physiology.
  • Lean Sigma.
  • The ability to diagnose, repair, and maintain basic scientific equipment.
