Job
We are looking for a Cardiac Sonographer to join our busy IAC Accredited Echo Lab that supports a large group of hospital‑employed Cardiologists. The role involves performing transthoracic, transesophageal, pediatric, and stress echocardiograms, as well as supporting advanced echo‑guided procedures.

- Operate ultrasound machines, transducers, PACs, echo reporting systems, and patient monitoring systems
- Understand and apply radiation safety practices, device usage, and exposure limits
- Engage in professional development and activities that enhance Cardiac Sonographer practice, including networking and research
- Complete 30 CME hours per 3 years, plus additional CME for lab accreditation
- Select teaching strategies appropriate to patients’ age, culture, gender, readiness, and comprehension
- Consult hospital resources to provide specialized education
- Prioritize patient and workplace safety, preventing errors and reporting concerns immediately
- Meet standby call requirements, maintaining a 20‑minute response time between primary residence and hospital
- Adhere to UnityPoint Health Values, Standards of Behaviors, policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
- Maintain regular, reliable attendance to meet department business needs
- Maintain current licenses and/or certifications relevant to the position
- Apply knowledge of HIPAA, JCAHO, DNV, OSHA, and other regulatory agencies
- Complete all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year
- Be knowledgeable about compliance for federally funded programs, reporting concerns promptly and taking appropriate action
Minimum Requirements
A graduate of a diploma, associate, or baccalaureate program in health science (e.g., cardiovascular technology, ultrasound, radiologic technology) who meets eligibility for certification in Adult Echocardiography through the ARDMS or CCI.
Preferred Or SpecializedNot required but advantageous.
EducationDiploma, associate, or baccalaureate in a health science field (e.g., cardiovascular technology, ultrasound, radiologic technology).
ExperiencePrefer one year of hospital or clinic experience with adult and pediatric populations.
License(s)/Certification(s)Current AE certification (ARDMS or CCI); if not current, must be obtained within 6 months of hire. Current driver’s license. Current BLS certification, to be obtained within 3 months of hire.
Current AE and Pediatric Echocardiography (PE) certification; if not current, must be obtained within 12 months of hire or 12 months after completing AE certification if not current.
Knowledge/Skills/AbilitiesFluent English, multicultural sensitivity, basic computer skills (Microsoft Office), customer/patient focus, independent critical thinking, and decision‑making.
OtherUse of standard equipment to perform essential functions. Occasional travel to other UPH facilities may be required; driving may involve a UPH vehicle, rental, or own vehicle.
