GENERAL JOB SUMMARYThe Cafe at Kirkwood (Iowa Hall, Main Campus at Kirkwood Community College) is a part of the same culinary team that operates The Class Act Restaurant and organizes banquets/catering for The Hotel Café provides fresh, high quality ingredients, a tasty gourmet twist to recipes, and menus with variety and flavor, to the students, employees and guests on Kirkwood's main campus. The catering assistant works closely with the catering coordinator to ensure all campus catering customers have an excellent experience.
This is done by planning delivery schedules, verifying orders, ensuring proper billing and setting up and serving food and beverages.

- Provide prompt, courteous and efficient food and beverage service for The Café Catering Department.
- Positively engage with all Café Customers, Campus Staff, Students and Guests.
- Organize and deliver Linn Hall and Coffee Shop Grab n Go Items.
- Maintain a clean and efficient inventory of items.
- Assist Café Office Coordinator with duties of opening The Café.
- Provide consistently high standard of service in all areas of service and meal functions related to group.
- Support Café Business needs in areas such as Cashiering, Barista, Dish and Prep depending on business needs.
- Assist as needed in banquet/catering facility and events at The Hotel at Kirkwood Center.
- Ensure a clean and safe working environment.
- Effectively handle customer concerns and report any customer concerns or comments to the Catering Coordinator.
- Assist Catering Coordinator in booking and securing new business.
- Assist Office Manager in billing all customers.
- Plan, execute or delegate daily delivery schedule.
- Plan, execute or delegate next day’s pull sheets.
- Participate in department and pre-shift meetings.
- Ensure all catering storage areas are clean and organized.
- Maintain compliance with required training as designated by supervisor.
- Regular and consistent attendance at work.
- Perform other related work duties as assigned.

- Ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements, including the health code.
- Frequent (up to 2/3 of the time): standing, walking, using hands, reaching with hands and arms, talking or hearing, and tasting or smelling.
- Frequent (up to 2/3 of the time): lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Occasional (under 1/3 of the time): climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, and sitting.
- Occasional (under 1/3 of the time): using telephone, computer screen and registers.
The work environment is a kitchen environment, there is loud noise, smells and exposure to hot and cold temperatures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS- High school diploma or the equivalent required.
- Customer Service Skills and knowledge.
- Preference will be given to those candidates with a post high school degree.
- Preference will be given to those candidates with a Valid Iowa Drivers license.
- Preference will be given to those candidates with a minimum of two years full-time experience in a related hospitality setting or the equivalent education and related work experience.
