Job Overview
Duration: 12 month contract
Job Description- Perform visual and computer quality control checks on facility and/or land base data. Use an editor tool to make corrections, close backlog work orders, and map new work orders. Ensure map products accurately reflect geographic locations of facilities and meet cartographic quality standards. Plot maps for field use.
- During conversion and/or post‑conversion, compare source documents to products and information from conversion vendors or field offices. Use quality assurance/quality control tools and the editor tool to enter data, reconcile errors, verify validity of information and assign appropriate attributes.
- Assign phasing notation to map products using switch diagrams and other source documentation.
- Convert post‑conversion source documents into automated area maps and related databases using the editor tool. This includes work orders/work requests for installation or removal of poles, gas and water mains, and other property units, bills of sale, shared‑use information, etc., and maintaining switch diagrams and maps from material tickets, CMS, WMS, or map sketches.
- Enter data related to cleanup and ongoing maintenance of utility facilities, and possibly landbase data.
- Verify maps against field data and revise as needed. Correct permanent location numbers when required.
- Collaborate with field personnel to ensure timely and accurate closing of work requests and as‑built updates.
- Operate computer peripheral equipment as specified in operations documentation.
- Maintain documentation of conversion/post‑conversion equipment tools.
- Perform all work in accordance with established company practices and department standards.
- Execute other duties that are similar, related, or incidental to this position.
- Work under the direction of the Team Leader, GIS Data Services.
- Proficiency in high‑school mathematics.
- Demonstrated knowledge of construction standards and work requests.
- Understanding of electric, gas, and landbase components and systems.
- Familiarity with pole area maps, underground area maps, gas maps, water maps, and switch diagrams.
- Preferred knowledge of work request processes and corporate information systems such as ArcFM, ADMS, and Maximo.
- Understanding of Geographic Information System (GIS) or graphical applications, or ability to learn them.
- Proficient computer system usage.
- Demonstrated cartographic skills.
- Strong communication skills, including grammar and punctuation.
- Proven ability to complete accurate work within prescribed time frames while meeting department objectives with minimal supervision.
- Capability to work in a culturally diverse work group.
- Physical ability to perform job requirements.
- Four years’ experience in utility construction, engineering work, and/or mapping.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Complies with Department of Transportation regulations on drug and alcohol testing (CFR 49, Parts
2).
- Successful completion of courses or work experience equivalent to two years of technical training in utility engineering beyond high school.
