Linux System Administrator; Onsite

Job Title: System Administrator – Onsite (Cedar Rapids, IA)

Role Type: Onsite, U.S. citizen required for security clearance.

Security Clearance: DoD Secret clearance required day one; active, transferable clearance applicable.

Collins Aerospace is seeking a skilled System Administrator with extensive experience in Windows, Red Hat Linux, and Ubuntu operating systems to manage, maintain, and troubleshoot our IT infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance and security.

• Install, configure, and maintain Windows, Red Hat Linux, and Ubuntu servers.
• Perform regular system updates, patches, and security configurations.
• Monitor system performance and ensure high availability and reliability.
• Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls.
• Install and configure Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems; manage packages with YUM/RPM.
• Implement and manage system security policies and SELinux.
• Configure and troubleshoot network settings and services.
• Perform system monitoring and logging using tools such as Rsyslog.
• Automate administrative tasks using shell scripting and Ansible.
• Provide technical support and troubleshooting for end‑users and internal teams.
• Respond to and resolve system‑related incidents and service requests.
• Collaborate with other IT teams to resolve complex issues.
• Implement and maintain security best practices; conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments (IAW NIST
  800‑53).
• Develop and implement backup and recovery strategies; perform regular data backups and disaster recovery validations.
• Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date documentation of system configurations and procedures.
• Generate regular reports on system performance, security, and compliance.

• University degree or equivalent experience; minimum 5 years of relevant experience (or advanced degree with minimum 3 years).
• U.S. citizenship required for security clearance.
• DoD SECRET clearance required day one.

• Extensive experience applying DoD STIGs to RHEL and Ubuntu servers and workstations.
• Proven experience as a System Administrator with expertise in Windows, Red Hat Linux, and Ubuntu.
• Strong knowledge of network protocols, firewall management, and network security.

• Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, KVM).
• Familiarity with configuration management tools.
