Legal Counsel

Midwest Equity is a private equity real estate company that provides opportunities to build generational wealth through passive investment in high-quality real estate. Additionally, Midwest Equity employs tax-efficient strategies, including 1031 exchanges, to minimize tax liability and maximize returns for investors.

This is a full-time on-site Legal Counsel role in Cedar Rapids, IA. The Legal Counsel will be part of the legal team that manages deal-making, execution of real estate transactions, and the legal aspects of real estate ownership. This includes reviewing, drafting, and negotiating commercial leases and purchase agreements, as well as corporate formation and governance. The candidate will play an important role on the legal team and will work with various departments throughout the due diligence process for acquisitions and manage closings.

• J.D. from an accredited law school; licensed to practice in Iowa (or eligible for in-house counsel registration).
• 2-5 years of experience in real estate, transactional, or corporate law (law firm or in-house).
• Team-oriented and collaborative approach with a willingness to learn.
• Proficiency in corporate formation and governance, and real estate matters
• Experience in reviewing, drafting, and negotiating NNN commercial leases
• Excellent critical thinking skills, written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of an elite team
• Problem solver who takes initiative
• Experience or willingness to use technology/AI to improve outcomes or efficiency
• Ability to handle multiple projects, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines.
