Field Service Technician - Cedar Rapids, IA

This role is responsible for scheduled and remedial service on UPS, Power Distribution Units, and Battery systems (2‑120 kVA). The field technician establishes and maintains excellent customer relationships and supports products sold to the Edge market segment (retail, financial, municipal). The position allows independent work once training is complete and relies on the Vertiv Training Academy and technical support resources.

Responsibilities
  • Perform service tasks as assigned following company policies and procedures.
  • Work independently once training is complete.
  • Provide on‑site and phone assistance to customers.
  • Communicate with Technical Support on technical or procedural issues.
  • Implement Field Change Notices per published guidelines.
  • Stay current on safety bulletins, field change notices, and service tips.
Safety
  • Operate in a safe manner per published safety guidelines.
  • Maintain and operate the company vehicle in accordance with local laws and company policy.
  • Wear appropriate PPE as specified by company guidelines.
  • Adhere to the "14‑hour rule" on work hours.
  • Report all work‑related accidents or injuries within 24 hours.
Qualifications
  • ASEET or AMEET certification, or progressing toward one (preferred).
  • High School or vocational diploma.
  • 2–4 years of military experience in a related technical field, or 0–2 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Time‑management and administrative task completion skills.
  • Basic site evaluation skills, familiarity with test equipment, and ability to follow written technical documentation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Vertiv software.
Working Conditions

Travel required; flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays. Valid driver’s license mandatory. Candidates must pass a drug test and background check.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to stand, walk, use hands, and lift up to 50 lb routinely, occasionally up to 75 lb. Vision, hearing, and other sensory requirements as listed in the official job description.
