Overview

Under the direction of the Plant Operations Manager and Supervisor, this position requires knowledge of all the electro‑mechanical systems of the hospital and its outbuildings. It also requires expert knowledge in hardware application, networking, troubleshooting, programming, and commissioning the hospital’s building automation systems, such as HVAC control software, energy management, card access, and security systems (video & audible). The incumbent will work from construction submittals and blueprints for installation, troubleshooting, and repair of these systems.

Knowledge of safety equipment to maintain these systems, and safety equipment used in health care facilities, is required. The incumbent will use and maintain hand and power tools and must follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for construction projects, corrective maintenance, and preventative maintenance.

Responsibilities
  • Utilize critical thinking to make independent judgments and maintain responsibility and accountability for the knowledge of conditions of assigned BAS and mechanical equipment.
  • Understand, observe, and comply with all safety precautions and procedures of the department and hospital.
  • Install, expand, troubleshoot, and maintain building automation systems, and ensure data‑based generation of critical equipment records is up to date and recorded.
  • Work closely with Biomedical and IT departments on BAS integration to ensure network security is met and maintained.
  • Maintain good relationships and communications with patients, visitors, and staff, and handle all urgent requests in a timely manner.
  • Repair equipment correctly and completely, keep shop and mechanical rooms clean and free of unnecessary items.
  • Utilize logs and maintain all documents required in accordance with SOP’s or required AHJ’s.
  • Provide training to others on the assigned BAS system and keep skills updated through self‑development or additional training.
  • Inform the POM Manager or Supervisor on all projects so that appropriate communications can be maintained with other departments.
  • Suggest improvements of equipment or management policies to the POM Manager or Supervisor.
  • Be capable of self‑evaluation to improve productivity, understand safety precautions and comply with all safety procedures, and perform duties during fire, internal, and external disasters, codes, and drills.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the POM Manager or Supervisor.
Qualifications
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of industrial or commercial maintenance experience.
  • Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Basic computer knowledge using word processing, spreadsheets, email, and web browsers.
  • Use of usual and customary equipment required to perform essential functions of the position.
