CRST’s Risk function plays a critical role in protecting the company’s financial stability, operational continuity, and reputation. As claims complexity increases, strong leadership, financial rigor, and disciplined execution are essential.
As Director - Claims, you’ll provide senior leadership across multiple claim types, actively oversee complex and high-exposure claims, and lead other claims personnel. You’ll partner closely with Legal, Risk, and executive leadership to improve outcomes, control costs, and ensure consistent, compliant claims handling across the enterprise.
What You’ll DoLead and actively oversee enterprise claims management across multiple exposures, including cargo liability, workers’ compensation, and subrogation recoveries
Own and manage significant claims-related financial exposure, including reserves, settlement authority, recovery efforts, and long‑term cost mitigation strategies
Serve as the accountable owner for third‑party administrator and outside counsel performance, including reserving discipline, litigation strategy, financial outcomes, and service‑level execution
Build, lead, and develop a high‑performing claims team with clear accountability and strong execution
Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, internal policies, and claims‑handling best practices
Partner cross‑functionally with Legal, Safety, Operations, Finance, and HR to reduce risk and improve claims outcomes
Drive operational rigor, reporting discipline, and data‑informed decision‑making across the claims function
Leadership experience overseeing multi‑line claims operations
Demonstrated success owning performance, financial outcomes, and reserving discipline in claims environments
Proven ownership of significant claims‑related financial exposure, including reserve adequacy, settlement authority, and cost mitigation strategies
Proven people leadership experience across managers, supervisors, and professional staff
Ability to work onsite in Cedar Rapids, IA
Four‑year degree or applicable work experience with demonstrated success
Experience in transportation or other claims‑intensive industries such as insurance, third‑party administration, construction, retail, or hospitality
Legal background or prior experience working closely with legal teams
