Job Description
Ryan Companies US, Inc. is looking for a Director of Field Operations to join our national Mission Critical sector! The Director of Field Operations is responsible for all activities within their assigned team/client, with a primary focus on leading field operations for our Mission Critical sector, specifically serving hyperscale and co‑location clients. This role works in close partnership with the VP of Construction, Field Teams, and Project Teams to ensure operational excellence, project success, and strategic team development.
Responsibilities- Lead Mission Critical Field Operations: Direct and manage all field activities for hyperscale and co‑location data center projects, ensuring alignment with client expectations and project goals from inception to completion.
- Oversee Project Start‑Up: Take ownership of the initial phases of project mobilization, including site logistics planning, safety program implementation, and establishing project team structure to ensure a successful and efficient project launch.
- Own Schedule Development and Management: Drive the creation of detailed project schedules during the proposal stage and maintain rigorous oversight throughout the project lifecycle, proactively identifying and mitigating risks to ensure on‑time delivery.
- Build, Place, and Mentor Staff: Strategically build a high‑performing field team by leading recruitment, hiring, and placement of staff; mentor team members, ensuring they understand expectations and hold them accountable for performance.
- Client Engagement: Play a key role in presentations to prospective clients and participate in ongoing client relationship programs, acting as a representative of Ryan's field operations expertise.
- Project Profitability and Controls: Achieve maximum profit on each project in a manner consistent with Ryan's long‑term interests, ensuring robust cost control techniques and proper documentation procedures are adhered to.
- Team Training and Development: Train team members in estimating, scheduling, and construction management techniques, and further develop subordinates on new and existing computer programs and "Ryan Tools".
- Employee Management: Assist the Vice President of Field Operations in employee evaluation, compensation recommendations, and handling termination issues with VP approval.
- Project Lifecycle Management: Review all estimates for completeness and competitiveness, ensure proper close‑out, keep accounts payable/receivable current, and assist in subcontractor approval and monitoring.
- Operational Reporting and Strategy: Prepare monthly reports for the Vice President of Field Operations on project status, participate in Field Manager/Field Coordinator meetings, and support decisions on assignments, workload monitoring, and action plans.
- Industry Leadership: Stay current on union issues, review and approve labor agreements, and communicate new construction industry developments to the team.
