CNC Machinist Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Machinist to operate and set up CNC mill and lathe machines. The ideal candidate will have the ability to write and edit programs in Mastercam. The role involves performing basic maintenance on machines and maintaining specifications by observing and managing various operations such as drilling, grooving, cutting, turning, facing, knurling, and thread‑chasing.
Responsibilities- Operate and set up CNC mill and lathe machines.
- Write and edit CNC programs using Mastercam.
- Manage an average of 2–5 changeovers per day for short runs.
- Perform basic maintenance on machines.
- Observe and maintain specifications through various machining operations.
- Experience with CNC machining and programming.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- Proficient computer and technical skills.
- 2+ years of experience in setting up and operating CNC machines.
Skills & Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Preference for candidates with experience in program setup and editing beyond basic operation.

WorkEnvironment
This is a union shop with approximately 110 total employees and a second shift team of around 5 people. The work environment is non‑climate controlled and involves manufacturing machines that produce ductwork for global clients. Standard hours are Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with second shift hours from 4:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., extending to 3:00 a.m. Optional Saturday shifts are available from noon to 6:00 p.m. with a minimum 4‑hour commitment.
Training will occur during day hours from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Overtime is optional and abundant, with no work scheduled on Sundays.
This is a Permanent position based out of Cedar Rapids, IA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $41,600.00 – $70,000.00 per year.
