This is a full‑time, exempt position.
The Shift Supervisor is responsible for achieving set tactical direction within the Wet Mill on a specific shift. This employee will work with and report to the Wet Mill Superintendent. Duties vary day by day and include setting daily direction for operations through ensuring execution of standard work, fostering a positive safety culture, aligning priorities, ensuring trainees meet goals, troubleshooting plant upsets, participating in plant initiative activities, and other tasks as required.
The Shift Supervisor is required to drive out losses within the department to ensure the plant maximizes efficiencies on a given shift.
- Directs the operation of the plant facility within established quality, housekeeping, safety, and environmental guidelines set by the organization.
- Coordinates daily operations performed by hourly production employees to ensure that work is performed safely and efficiently.
- Adjusts work assignments for hourly production employees to effectively utilize the team’s experience, training, and abilities.
- Ensures the safety of all personnel through compliance with OSHA regulations.
- Maintains a positive safety culture, coaching/mentoring on safety priorities.
- Provides recommendations for improvements to the department and/or programs.
- Recognizes risks and provides recommendations for improvements.
- Communicates effectively within the department to hourly employees, contractors, maintenance, vendors, and leaders.
- Keeps plant management informed of matters impacting team morale and/or employee safety.
- Escalates plant concerns to appropriate department leaders as needed.
- Motivates hourly team members by leading by example and holding them to a high standard of integrity.
- Identifies training needs of the shift hourly staff and escalates concerns to ensure the team receives necessary resources.
- Works closely with each department to understand needs and challenges for the shift.
- Provides regular coaching and performance reviews for hourly employees.
- Leads operations meetings and safety meetings/trainings.
- Analyzes safety, environmental, quality incidents, enters initial reports and investigative findings into Sphera software.
- Maintains a culture on shift that embraces the ADM Code of Conduct and encourages positive reinforcement when the team achieves good results and safe performance.
- Issues discipline (attendance and/or job performance) as warranted, following Human Resources and Department Superintendent guidance.
- Conducts audits of the plant to ensure compliance (GMP, Safety, Health, Environmental, etc.).
- Assists with operational activities on D3 and in the field.
- Enter Work Orders as issues arise that need attention with appropriate prioritization (Code 1, 4, 7,
9). - Must be a highly motivated individual and have the ability to motivate others for task completion.
- Must be able to work well with others in a team environment and make decisions with minimal information.
- Sets up teams for success by issuing hot work and confined space permits.
- Assists in equipment periodic inspections.
- Aligns to department’s priorities and self‑manages workload accordingly.
- Leads by example through following ADM’s Code of Conduct and Core Values.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Work directly with assigned shift, following shift rotation.
- Work with various chemicals and caustics.
- Work with vibrating equipment occasionally.
- Hazards include work on slippery/uneven surfaces and at high elevations on a constant basis.
- Exposure to high and low temperature extremes.
- Work in cramped positions frequently.
- Stand for long periods of time.
