Overview
Senior Systems Engineer – Infrastructure (Onsite, U.S. citizen required).
Location:
Cedar Rapids, IA. The role is part of the Survivable Airborne Operations Center (SAOC) program, modernizing the U.S. Air Force Nuclear Command, Control, and Communications capability. The position requires a Top Secret U.S. government issued security clearance and is open to U.S. citizens.
- Work closely with a highly motivated team of professionals and stakeholders to execute model‑based systems engineering development activities for the SAOC program.
- Participate in the systems development lifecycle, creating trade studies, system design, requirements definition, requirements allocation, traceability, interface control documents (ICDs), systems integration, verification testing, and qualification.
- Facilitate Agile ceremonies, including sprint reviews, user story refinement, and end‑of‑sprint product demos.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to answer technical questions, solve problems, and support successful project execution.
- Gain technical leadership experience, mentorship opportunities, and exposure to influential individuals within Mission Systems.
- Develop secure systems while collaborating with technical experts and applying modern systems engineering methods.
- Use modern modeling tools and next‑generation systems engineering practices.
- Enhance knowledge of security‑hardened products and evolving business needs.
- Must Have: Experience in one or more areas of the systems engineering lifecycle (requirements development, design, integration, verification, validation, and technical documentation).
- Experience in one or more areas of MBSE, including system modeling, requirements traceability, or architecture development.
- Experience using the Atlassian suite:
Jira, Jama, and Confluence. - Typically requires a STEM degree and minimum 5 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree and minimum 3 years of experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret U.S. government issued security clearance.
- U.S. citizenship.
- Preferred: Experience designing and developing distributed computing and networked systems using industry‑standard protocols and technologies.
- Experience working in Agile teams and collaborating across software, hardware, cyber, and systems engineering disciplines.
- Experience with MIL‑STD hardened environments, ensuring compliance with military specifications for ruggedness, durability, and security.
- Practical experience with MBSE concepts, SysML, and modeling tools such as Cameo, Magic Draw, or Enterprise Architect.
- Experience across the systems engineering lifecycle, including requirements, design, integration, verification, validation, and technical documentation.
- Experience developing requirements and collaborating with consuming teams on interfaces, performance, and system integration.
- Experience collaborating with design teams to ensure implemented designs meet system, integration, and operational requirements.
- Working knowledge of bidding and project/task estimation tools (e.g., SEER products).
