Senior Systems Engineer – Computing Solutions Department

Location:

Cedar Rapids, IA, U.S. (Onsite). This role is within the Computing Solutions Department of Collins Aerospace, focusing on next‑generation avionic electronic systems for safety‑critical applications.

The role involves developing highly integrated computing systems that meet industry standards such as ARP‑4754B. The engineer will work cross‑functionally with Hardware, Software, Safety, and Security teams to create comprehensive plans, define architecture, verify and validate designs, and produce detailed documentation.

• Develop requirements for highly integrated DAL A computing systems following ARP‑4754B and program plans.
• Lead product architecture discussions and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure design effectiveness and certifiability.
• Create comprehensive plans, define architecture, conduct meticulous verification and validation, and develop detailed design documentation for next‑generation solutions.
• Maintain program visibility across Avionics business units and support 10% travel as needed.

• Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) with a minimum of 8 years relevant experience, or an advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years experience.
• Experience with safety‑critical system development, including DO‑178C, DO‑254, or ARP‑4754A/B.
• Demonstrated ability to author and validate system requirements.

• Experience with avionics equipment certification processes.
• Experience working with stakeholders to generate concepts of operations and use cases.
• Proficiency in authoring in‑depth technical documents and testing embedded hardware and software.
• Experience developing automated tests utilizing scripting.
• Excellent communication skills for both internal and external customers.
• Adaptable to change, self‑motivated, collaborative, and eager to learn new technologies.

Salary range: $86,800 – $165,200 USD, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
