RN Infusion - Department of Hematology & Oncology

Physicians’ Clinic of Iowa’s is searching for a patient focused RN to work full-time to join our Hematology and Oncology infusion team. The RN will provide high-quality patient care in a hematology/oncology setting, ensuring safe administration of medications, effective patient education, and accurate clinical documentation. This role also supports cross-functional nursing duties within the clinic.

Primary duties for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing initial and ongoing patient assessments prior to and during each infusion to ensure patients are free of infection, adverse reactions, or other complications
  • Monitor and record patient vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, and pulse rate.
  • Collect and document accurate subjective and objective assessments in the electronic medical record, including medication lists, treatments, patient care instructions, and communications with outside entities (e.g., insurance, disability).
  • Communicate medical information appropriately with patients, families, coworkers, and outside institutions.
  • Verify chemotherapy orders and lab results for accuracy.
  • Administer and monitor chemotherapy and other medications for hematology/oncology patients.
  • Maintain knowledge of chemotherapy drugs, including side effects, infusion rates, potential reactions, and recognition of adverse responses.
  • Educating patients on IV therapy and the infusion process
  • Support cross-training needs by assisting triage nurses, clinic nurses, and rooming staff as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Current RN license is required.
  • Experience providing infusion treatment, preferred.
  • BLS required or must obtain within the first 60 days of employment.
  • Proficiency (or ability to become proficient) in EMR and related computer systems.
  • Strong Commitment to patient care and teamwork.
  • Excellent communication skills, professionalism, reliability, and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Thorough understanding of safety regulations and best practices.
