Registered Nurse Inpatient Rehab Unit (IRU)
Expand your nursing skills in a supportive team-based environment by joining the Inpatient Rehab Unit at Mercy Cedar Rapids. This rehab unit serves adult patients age 18 and older. The focus is to provide comprehensive rehabilitation care for patients who have experienced a loss of function in mobility actives of daily living cognition or communication due to illness injury or surgery.
Many patients are being treated for stroke neurological conditions traumatic injuries orthopedic conditions and other complex medical events. Patients require 24-hour nursing care but are medically stable enough to participate in rehabilitation therapies.

What You’ll Do
As an RN in the Inpatient Rehab Unit you will:
- Deliver high-quality patient-centered care using evidence-based practices
- Monitor and support patients with complex medical needs
- Communicate clearly with patients families and the care team at hand-offs
- Educate patients and families to support recovery and safe discharge
- Document care accurately in real time
- Respond effectively to emergencies and changing conditions
- Lead and delegate tasks to nursing assistants and support staff
- Create a respectful compassionate environment for patients and team members
