Public Safety Officer

Mount Mercy University is seeking a dedicated and service-oriented Public Safety Officer to join our Public Safety team. This position plays a vital role in maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming campus environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Public Safety Officers work a non-standard schedule and assist in providing 24/7 campus safety coverage. This position would cover hours from 12 AM to 8AM, Saturday through Wednesday.

The ideal candidate is a collaborative professional who demonstrates sound judgment, strong interpersonal skills, and a commitment to serving a diverse university community.

Key Responsibilities

* Patrol campus buildings, parking lots, and grounds to help ensure the safety and security of people and property.

* Enforce campus security and parking policies, including building access and key control procedures.

* Respond to emergencies, provide assistance to injured individuals, and coordinate with local emergency responders when necessary.

* Conduct investigations, complete incident reports, and maintain security records.

* Monitor security and life-safety systems, including fire, intrusion, and access control systems.

* Perform routine inspections of campus safety equipment and security measures.

* Provide security escorts, support campus events, and collaborate with departments on safety initiatives and emergency preparedness.

* Participate in safety training, emergency drills, and other professional development activities.

* Deliver excellent customer service while maintaining a visible, approachable presence on campus.

Qualifications

Required

* High school diploma or equivalent.

* Valid driver's license.

* First Aid and CPR certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).

* Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and other non-traditional hours as needed.

Preferred

* Associate degree.

* Previous experience in campus safety, security, law enforcement, military service, emergency response, or related field.
