The Firing Pin Iowa is an indoor firing range located in Tiffin, Iowa, dedicated to providing a safe, welcoming environment for community members to learn and practice responsible firearm handling. The range focuses on education, training, and continuous skill development for shooters of various experience levels. Team members support a culture of safety, respect, and professionalism.

Role Description

This full-time, on-site Range Safety Officer role is based in the Iowa City–Cedar Rapids Area. The Range Safety Officer will oversee daily range operations, monitor all shooting activities, and ensure strict adherence to range rules and firearm safety protocols. Responsibilities include briefing guests on safety procedures, supervising live‑fire exercises, identifying and addressing unsafe behavior, and providing clear, calm guidance to range users of varying skill levels.

The role also involves performing regular safety inspections, documenting incidents, maintaining range cleanliness and organization, and supporting training events, classes, and community outreach activities.

Qualifications
  • Health & Safety and Occupational Health skills to ensure a safe environment for all range users.
  • Accident Investigation experience to document, analyze, and help prevent future incidents.
  • Security skills to manage access control, monitor activities, and respond appropriately to potential risks.
  • Safety Training skills to instruct guests on firearm handling and range procedures.
  • Strong knowledge of firearms, ammunition, and safe handling practices (prior range or military/law enforcement experience preferred).
  • Calm, professional communication skills and the ability to give clear verbal instructions under pressure.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, respond quickly in emergencies, and perform basic facility maintenance tasks.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; relevant safety certifications (e.g., NRA Range Safety Officer or similar) are a plus.
