We’re looking for a skilled tradesperson to join our team as a controls technician. This is an opportunity for someone who is ready to bring their expertise, problem-solving skills, and energy to help us engineer what’s next—one building at a time.
The Controls Technician is responsible for the installation, service, troubleshooting, and maintenance of control systems related to access control, security, and HVAC building systems. This position exists to ensure safe, reliable, and code-compliant operation of customer systems while delivering a high-quality service experience. The role requires strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, the ability to work independently in the field, and comfort working in physically demanding and variable environments.
Responsibilities
- Install, service, troubleshoot, and repair control systems, including access control, operators, sensors, and related components.
- Perform planned and preventative maintenance on control systems to ensure optimal performance and compliance with applicable standards.
- Diagnose system malfunctions using schematics, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and on-site evaluation.
- Complete routine safety checks and verify systems meet national and local safety standards.
- Modify or upgrade existing systems based on customer needs or project requirements.
- Work on active construction sites, retail storefronts, commercial buildings, and industrial environments.
- Maintain company-provided tools, equipment, vehicles, and inventory in a clean and safe condition.
- Accurately track labor, materials, service reports, and required documentation; submit paperwork in a timely manner.
- Communicate professionally with customers, project managers, and internal teams regarding work performed, findings, and next steps.
- Adhere to all company safety policies and job site safety requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 1+ years of experience installing or servicing HVAC, security, access control, or related low-voltage systems.
- Demonstrated mechanical and electrical aptitude, including low-voltage wiring.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and technical diagrams.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Customer-service mindset with professional communication skills.
- OSHA training preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and auto insurance.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Regularly bend, twist, squat, kneel, crouch, and reach while performing installation and service tasks.
- Climb ladders, stairs, lifts, and scaffolding to access equipment at various heights.
- Perform work while standing or walking for extended periods.
- Ability to travel between job sites, including occasional overnight stays and on-call weekends.
- Use hand and power tools requiring fine motor skills and sustained grip strength.
- Work in indoor and outdoor environments, including exposure to heat, cold, wind, rain, dust, and noise.
- Ability to safely work at heights and in confined or elevated spaces.
- Ability to read wiring labels, schematics, and digital devices.
