Position Title: Preventive Maintenance Mechanic
PRINCIPAL DUTIES- Perform Preventive Maintenance (PM) on all aspects of physical plant equipment including HVAC equipment, lighting systems, and plumbing components.
- Provide support to the Operations Department in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fabrication, and other general operational needs.
- Operate and maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles used in the trade.
- Report to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis with a strong attendance history.
- Other duties may be assigned.
- Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP) systems found in school buildings.
- Ability to work from and read sketches, blueprints, and specification manuals from oral or written instructions.
- Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
- Ability to speak clearly and concisely in both oral and written communication.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical ability to perform demanding tasks including lifting, bending, climbing, and working from ladders and lifts or scaffolding.
- Must be willing to work under adverse weather conditions.
- Varied workday hours, including options on 1st shift (7:00 am‑3:30 pm) and 2nd shift (11:00 am‑7:30 pm) as necessary.
- Capable of representing the school district professionally, including confidentiality, communication skills, and a professional appearance.
- Ability to work under pressure with frequent interruptions.
- Ability to solve problems independently and with others.
- Reports to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis.
- Valid Iowa State driver’s license with an acceptable record to the district and its insurance carrier (required).
Ability to perform basic mathematical functions such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, decimals, and fractions.
REASONING ABILITYAbility to solve problems effectively and interpret various instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form.
OTHERSKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, colleagues, community members, staff, and students; ability to perform duties with awareness of district requirements and Board of Education policies.
PHYSICAL DEMANDSApplicants must be able to lift 50 lbs frequently, climb ladders, work from platform lifts or scaffolding, be in excellent physical condition, and have adequate close, color, and focus vision. The job requires frequent standing, walking, using hands and fingers to handle tools, and talking and hearing.
CLASSIFICATIONSalary and benefits in accordance with the district’s Work Agreement with Local 199, Service Employees International Union.
