Job Summary
The Technician II – Structured Cabling must be able to perform the technical responsibilities of a Cable Installer and function as a lead member of a technical team. The Technician II – Structured Cabling will coordinate small groups of installers in the performance of daily workload including adherence to Company safety and quality standards.
Job Duties and Responsibilities (Technician II – Structured Cabling)- Install work area outlets for floors or walls by terminating CAT 3 & CAT 5 jacks, mounting face plates and surface‑mount boxes, and adhering to IES Commercial labeling standards.
- Build closets by mounting and installing backboards, cross‑connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic cabling, and related hardware.
- Install grounding for racks, equipment, and cable as required.
- Complete all IDC connections, including terminating 110/66 blocks and patch panels.
- Perform testing: continuity test on horizontal and riser cable, use a volt‑ohmmeter, troubleshoot opens, crosses, shorts, and transpose pairs on horizontal and riser cable.
- Identify active voice and data circuits.
- Assume responsibility for effective crew performance, providing necessary training, coordinating personnel, and managing timelines to complete projects.
- Complete all IES Communications paperwork accurately and on time (timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, tool transfers, etc.).
- Adhere to and participate in all Company, customer, and industry quality and safety standards and regulations.
- Carry out any other responsibilities as assigned.

- Strong problem‑solving and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to read and write effectively.
- Physical ability to work at heights, on ladders, and in confined spaces; lift up to 50 lb and move up to 75 lb.
- Endurance for long periods of standing, walking, or working in inclement weather.
- Good color vision, ability to read small print, and hearing to recognize audible signals such as dial tones.
- Travel within branch and/or regional territory as needed; reliable transportation to job sites.
- High School diploma or GED equivalency.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in telecommunications or a related technical field.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise others.
- Proficiency with the following tools: screwdriver (regular and Phillips), drywall saw, torpedo level, tape measure, snips with belt sheath, needle‑nose and channel lock pliers, hammer, wrench set, cable stripper, flashlight, gloves, punch tool with 110/66 block blades, 6/8‑position combo crimp tool.
- Ability to interpret blueprints and project documents, including specifications, reporting, and quality requirements.
- Knowledge of universal communications color codes.
- Minimum driving standards required by the Company.
- Hourly pay range: $28.00 – $34.00 per hour.
- Perform all Technician II responsibilities, with added duties of crew leadership and project oversight.
- Manage and supervise a crew of installers on multiple job sites.
- Plan and coordinate personnel assignments and project timelines.
- Interfere as liaison with customer representatives and provide customer‑level support.
- Ensure crew compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct training and mentorship for crew members.
- Accurately complete all IES Communications paperwork, including materials transfers, work orders, and change orders.
- Complete any additional responsibilities as assigned.
- Self‑motivated, professional, and positive approach to work.
- Strong problem‑solving and critical thinking skills with effective oral presentation ability.
- Physical ability to work at heights, off a ladder, and in confined spaces; lift up to 50 lb and move up to 75 lb; regular attendance and ability to stand and walk large job sites.
- Good color vision, ability to read small print, hearing for audible signals such as dial tones.
- Travel within branch and/or regional territory as needed; reliable transportation to job sites.
