Maintenance Mechanic – HVAC

Location:

ELSC, Cedar Rapids, Iowa

• Respond to work orders in a timely manner to identify and mitigate faults, failures and hazards.
• Troubleshoot system failures and execute necessary repairs.
• Read, interpret, and accurately follow technical instructions and operation manuals.
• Perform cleaning, repair, and installation of equipment and parts.
• Operate a variety of hand and power tools.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Recommend solutions for equipment repair or replacement.
• Adhere to all safety and performance standards.
• Other duties may be assigned.
• Typical workday Monday‑Friday 7:00 am–3:30 pm, with adjustment as needed for out‑of‑hours repairs.

• General knowledge of MEP systems including heat pumps, chillers, AHUs, HEXs, valves, actuators and other HVAC equipment.
• Comfortable working from heights.
• Capable of working independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to read sketches, blueprints, specification manuals and other written instructions.
• Good problem‑solving skills.
• Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
• Excellent attendance and punctuality.
• Valid Iowa State driver’s license with satisfactory record.
• Basic computer skills (email, web‑based software).
• Ability to work under pressure, with frequent interruptions.
• Willingness to work under adverse weather conditions.
• Ability to lift 50 lb. frequently and perform manual labor including work from ladders and scaffolding.
• High School diploma or GED required.

• Read, analyze, interpret, and implement ideas contained in technical documents, reports, regulations, etc.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, colleagues, staff, and students.
• Communicate clearly and concisely in both oral and written forms.

• Must be in excellent physical condition.
• Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands/fingers to handle objects or controls, talk, and hear.
• Specific vision abilities: close vision, color vision, ability to adjust focus while working.
• Must lift 50 lbs frequently.
• Ability to perform manual labor, work from ladders and scaffolding.
• Will be required to work in hot or cold conditions inside and outside buildings.

Hourly Rate: $24.15
