Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor and the Foreman, the Maintenance Mechanic- HVAC is responsible for the following:
- Respond to work orders in a timely manner to identify and mitigate faults, failures, and hazards.
- Troubleshoot system failures and execute necessary repairs.
- Read, interpret, and accurately follow technical instructions and operation manuals.
- Perform cleaning, repair, and installation of equipment and parts.
- Operate a variety of hand and power tools.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Recommend solutions for equipment repair or replacement.
- Adhere to all safety and performance standards.
- Other duties may be assigned.
- Typical workday will be Monday‑Friday 7:00 am‑3:30 pm. Working hours may be adjusted as needed to accomplish repairs that are required to be outside of typical workday hours, to be determined by the Maintenance Supervisor.
Essential Skills/Aptitudes/Requirements:
- Reports to work on a regular and reliable basis with excellent attendance.
- Requires general knowledge of MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) systems, including but not limited to heat pumps, chillers, AHUs, HEXs, valves, and actuators, and various other HVAC equipment.
- Must be capable and comfortable working from heights.
- Capable of working both independently and as a team.
- Ability to read sketches, blueprints, specification manuals, and other written instructions.
- Possess good problem‑solving skills.
- Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
- Must be willing to work under adverse weather conditions.
- Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and implement ideas contained in technical documents, reports, regulations, etc.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, colleagues, staff and students.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written forms.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical functions required in the building maintenance trade, including, but not limited to, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, decimals, and fractions.
- Ability to solve problems effectively.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

- Represent the School District in a professional manner, upholding confidentiality, effective communication, and professional image.
- Ability and knowledge to operate equipment, tools and vehicles necessary to accomplish assigned duties.
- Valid Iowa State Driver's license with a record that is satisfactory to the District and the District's insurance carrier.
- Basic computer knowledge including the ability to use email and web-based software.
- Ability to work under pressure with frequent interruptions.
- Ability to problem solve independently and with others.
- Ability to work independently as a self‑starter who is motivated to work hard.
- Must be in excellent physical condition.

- Applicants must be able to lift 50 lbs frequently.
- Sufficient physical strength and ability to perform manual labor and to work from ladders and scaffolding.
- The employee will be required to work in hot or cold conditions inside and outside of buildings.
High School diploma or GED
Salary and BenefitHourly Rate: $24.15
Salary and Benefits in accordance with work Agreement with Cedar Rapids Custodial & Maintenance Employee Association including but not limited to a health care package, paid vacation, IPERS retirement program, etc.
