Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
The Maintenance Technician I supports Fed Ex Industrial Maintenance for material handling to complete preventative and predictive maintenance and repair of material handling systems. The role utilizes mechanical power transmission, electrical, PLC/controls, welding/fabrication and other industrial maintenance systems and may troubleshoot component and system issues.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Provides basic preventative and predictive maintenance and repair of material handling systems primarily in mechanical power transmission and develops skills in electrical, PLC/controls, and welding/fabrication.
- Diagnoses simple mechanical power transmission issues visually or audibly at the single component level.
- Adheres to all applicable safety standards and promotes a safe work environment by attending safety meetings, completing required trainings, and addressing all safety concerns.
- Requires assistance or supervision for preventative and corrective maintenance tasks.
- May participate in smaller‑scope projects.
- May be required to work a flexible schedule including all days and shifts as business needs dictate.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Identify and repair a failed bearing or gearbox on a single conveyor.
- Latch and track a conveyor belt.
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings and manufacturer manuals.
- Use a digital multimeter on AC/DC voltage and continuity settings to identify a failed or stuck relay.
- Identify and replace a failed photo eye.
- Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and manufacturer manuals.
- Identify PLC components.
- MIG or stick weld.
- High School Diploma or GED required with minimum skill requirements.
- Demonstrated basic mechanical aptitude through background or hobbies in agriculture, automotive, or other technical areas.
- Alternatively, two (2) years of Fed Ex Operations Sortation equipment knowledge or current enrollment in a certificate or degree program for Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, or related discipline.
- Related military technical experience and electrical or mechanical trade experience will be considered.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Possess basic mechanical aptitude.
- Basic electrical and mechanical skills preferred.
- Ability to solve basic mechanical or electrical problems, including understanding basic engineering formulas.
- Diagnose simple mechanical power transmission issues visually or audibly at the single component level.
- Effective verbal and written communication with peers, managers, and external vendors.
- Follow detailed instructions accurately.
- Use Microsoft Office suite and other web‑based applications.
- Manage time and stay organized.
- Use hand tools and possibly power tools.
- Work in hot or cold temperatures.
- Stand, walk, bend, stoop, and squat as required.
Pay: $20.35 – $47.47
