About the Position
Johnson Controls Inc. is recruiting an HVAC Apprentice to work with our Service Technical Academy and deliver high‑quality service for building automation solutions. You will be trained by experienced professionals and will work on HVAC mechanical equipment and controls at client sites.
Responsibilities- Provide customers with the highest level of service to resolve building inefficiencies and service‑related items.
- Serve as a trusted advisor, delivering solutions and outcomes during service visits.
- Assist in troubleshooting and resolving both technical issues and customer needs.
- Keep Johnson Controls, contractors, and customers informed of job progress and any issues that arise.
- Meet attendance requirements for required union training during the first year.
- Provide recommendations and solutions to ensure facilities operate efficiently, including upselling opportunities.
- Prepare and submit quotes that support recommendations.
Apprentices will be trained through the Service Technical Academy, gaining skills that support future recognition, monetary rewards, and advancement. The role includes coaching, mentorship, and hands‑on work on HVAC mechanical equipment and controls on client sites.
Qualifications- Valid driver’s license.
- Willingness to travel 75–100% of the time as part of the IMPACT Fly Team.
- Membership (or willingness to join) the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada, AFL‑CIO.
- 1+ years of industry experience or experience servicing mechanical HVAC systems.
- Knowledge of mechanical HVAC systems, facilities management systems, site preparation, peripheral equipment installation, and servicing techniques.
- Effective interpersonal skills to represent Johnson Controls professionally.
- Leadership skills to support mechanics working on non‑critical HVAC equipment on a job site.
- Self‑starter who can eventually work independently.
- Commitment to prioritizing safety in all activities.
- Preferred: 1–2 years of trade school or college with a technical emphasis.
Pay: $27.55 hourly rate, to be determined by the collective bargaining agreement. The position is a bargaining‑unit role with benefits provided through a local labor union aligned with a collective bargaining agreement. The posted salary range reflects the target compensation for this role, and exceptional candidates may be considered for higher compensation if warranted.
