The Electrical Helper supports licensed electricians on commercial projects by assisting with electrical installations, organizing and maintaining tools and materials, and performing basic construction tasks under supervision. This role focuses on helping run conduit, pulling wire and cable, and supporting the installation of electrical components while learning safe and professional trade practices on active job sites.
Responsibilities- Assist licensed electricians with commercial electrical installations on a variety of projects.
- Organize, load, and maintain tools, equipment, and materials to keep the jobsite clean and efficient.
- Help run conduit, including EMT, PVC, and rigid conduit, under the supervision of a licensed electrician.
- Assist with pulling wire and cable through conduit in accordance with project specifications.
- Support the installation of electrical boxes, lighting fixtures, outlets, switches, and related components.
- Help with grounding and bonding tasks to ensure safe and compliant electrical systems.
- Perform basic measuring, cutting, drilling, and fastening using hand and power tools.
- Read and use a tape measure accurately to support precise layout and installation work.
- Operate a hand drill safely and effectively for drilling and fastening tasks.
- Follow directions from supervisors and electricians while maintaining a strong focus on safety.
- Travel reliably to various commercial jobsites, primarily within the Cedar Rapids / Iowa City area, using personal transportation.
- Participate in occasional carpooling or riding in a company vehicle for projects outside the primary work area, as arranged.
- Support conduit bending and installation activities as needed.
- Assist with troubleshooting support tasks under guidance, such as checking basic connections or helping trace circuits.
- Review and follow basic layout information and instructions derived from blueprints as directed by the supervising electrician.
- Experience and comfort using a hand drill for construction or electrical tasks.
- Proficiency in reading and using a tape measure accurately.
- Ability to assist with running conduit (EMT, PVC, rigid) under supervision.
- Ability to help pull wire and cable through conduit safely and efficiently.
- Basic capability to assist with electrical wiring and installation tasks under direction.
- Reliable self-transportation to drive to and from jobsites each workday.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to perform basic measuring, cutting, drilling, and fastening tasks.
- Willingness and physical ability to work on active commercial construction sites.
- Dependability and punctuality for a Monday through Friday schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Skills & Qualifications
- Familiarity with conduit bending and conduit installation is beneficial.
- Exposure to electrical wiring, lighting installation, and pulling wire is helpful.
- Comfort working with basic blueprints or layout information under supervision.
- Interest in learning the electrical trade and developing long-term skills in commercial construction.
- Ability to work cooperatively with a team of electricians and other trades on busy job sites.

Most work, approximately 98%, is within the Cedar Rapids and Iowa City area, and team members typically drive their own vehicles to jobsites in town. For projects outside this area, carpooling or riding in a company vehicle may be arranged. The role involves working on active construction sites, assisting with conduit, wiring, lighting, and general electrical installation tasks using hand tools and power tools such as drills.
