Millwright Apprentice
This role involves installing, maintaining, and repairing industrial equipment in a heavy industrial processing facility. You will work with conveyors, pumps, motors, gearboxes, and related systems while interpreting blueprints and specifications to ensure accurate assembly and alignment. The position requires regular use of welding and fabrication tools, operation of heavy equipment, and strict adherence to safety protocols in a physically demanding environment.
Responsibilities- Install, maintain, and repair industrial equipment such as conveyors, pumps, motors, and gearboxes.
- Interpret blueprints and specifications to assemble, align, and position equipment accurately.
- Operate heavy equipment including forklifts, lifts, and hoists in a safe and controlled manner.
- Use welding, sheet metal tools, and power tools to perform fabrication and repair tasks on industrial systems.
- Perform mechanical systems troubleshooting to identify issues and implement effective repairs.
- Carry out preventive maintenance activities to reduce equipment downtime and extend asset life.
- Work with piping systems, including plumbing and industrial piping, to support equipment installations and repairs.
- Use MIG and TIG welding techniques to join and repair metal components as required.
- Assist with installation and alignment of new equipment and machinery in an industrial setting.
- Follow all job-specific safety protocols and ensure compliance with site safety procedures.
- Collaborate with maintenance technicians and other trades as part of a larger on-site crew.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, especially in dirty and chemically exposed environments.
- Handle materials and equipment safely, including lifting and moving items up to 75 lbs.
- Support hydraulic system maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair as needed.
- Document work performed and communicate equipment issues or hazards to supervisors and team members.
- Experience working with construction or industrial millwright tasks such as installation, maintenance, and repair of equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications for equipment assembly and alignment.
- Hands-on welding experience, including MIG welding, TIG welding, and general fabrication work.
- Proficiency using power tools, sheet metal tools, and other fabrication equipment.
- Mechanical troubleshooting skills for diagnosing and resolving issues with conveyors, pumps, motors, gearboxes, and related systems.
- Familiarity with industrial maintenance practices, including preventive maintenance and repair activities.
- Basic knowledge of hydraulics and their application in industrial equipment.
- Comfort working in heavy industrial environments, including exposure to chemicals and dirty conditions.
- Ability to climb, work at heights, and navigate industrial structures safely.
- Capability to lift up to 75 lbs as part of daily tasks.
- Valid driver's license.
- Commitment to following safety procedures and job-specific protocols at all times.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in industrial construction, maintenance technician work, or related trades.
- Experience working with piping and plumbing systems in an industrial setting.
- Previous exposure to industrial corn processing or similar heavy industrial environments.
- Ability to work effectively in small teams of 5–10 within a larger crew.
- Strong attention to detail when aligning, installing, and repairing equipment.
- Willingness to work different shifts as scheduled and adapt to changing work priorities.
