We are seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team on a large-scale Data Center construction project in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a high-profile commercial construction project with a company that values safety, quality, and teamwork.
Position SummaryThe Heavy Equipment Operator will safely and efficiently operate a variety of construction equipment to support site preparation, excavation, grading, underground utilities, and other earthwork activities. Candidates must have experience working on commercial or industrial construction projects and be committed to maintaining a safe work environment.
Responsibilities- Operate heavy equipment including excavators, tele-handler, dozers, loaders, skid steers, rollers, and articulated haul trucks.
- Perform excavation, grading, trenching, back filling, and material handling.
- Read and interpret grade stakes, site plans, and construction drawings.
- Conduct daily equipment inspections and report maintenance needs.
- Work closely with foremen, survey crews, and other operators.
- Follow OSHA regulations and all company safety policies.
- Maintain productivity while ensuring work is completed safely and accurately.
- Assist with general site duties as needed.
- Minimum of 3 years of heavy equipment operating experience in commercial or industrial construction.
- Experience with large-scale projects such as data centers, industrial facilities, or infrastructure projects is preferred.
- Ability to operate multiple types of heavy equipment safely and efficiently.
- Knowledge of excavation safety, utility installation, and grading practices.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Reliable transportation and a strong work ethic.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification is a plus.
- Education:
- High School diploma or GED is preferred
- Experience:
- A valid Class A or B license from the State of Iowa
- Skills:
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide units of measure
- Ability to make complex cuts not to waste material, and figure out complex forming systems
- Training and complying with all safety rules, and performing without constant supervision
- Language
Skills:- Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints and specifications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine correspondence and speak effectively with customers and co-workers
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to bend, sit, stand and walk on uneven ground; use hands to manipulate objects, tools or controls; frequently make repetitive reaching and other movements with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee frequently is required to speak and listen and must regularly lift and/or move materials.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must wear all company or project required personal protective equipment (PPE), regularly work in outside weather conditions, be aware of close moving mechanical parts, and perform in high, precarious places. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
Employee must also be able to work scheduled/unscheduled overtime, per the needs of the project (weekends and holidays included).
