Job Description

Position: Journeyman Electrician

Location: Cedar Rapids, Iowa —

Industry: Commercial, Industrial & Institutional Construction (Electrical)

Work Hours: 58-60 Hours M-F: 7:00-5:30pm Sat: 7:00-5:30

Reference Wage (IBEW 583): $54.78/hr ($10 above scale)

Overtime: All hours over 40 paid at double time rate = $109.56/hr

Shift: Full-time, 58-60 hours/week

Position Summary:

Installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs electrical power, lighting, control, and low-voltage systems across commercial, industrial, and institutional projects in Iowa. All work is performed in accordance with the current adopted edition of the National Electrical Code (NEC), Iowa Electrical Code amendments, project specifications, OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Subpart K, and NFPA 70E.

Position Responsibilities:

• Install EMT, rigid, IMC, and PVC conduit systems; pull and terminate power, control, and instrumentation cables from switch gear, MCCs, and panel boards to end equipment.
• Read and interpret blueprints, one-line diagrams, riser diagrams, conduit schedules, submittals, and project specs.
• Install, test, and commission feeders, transformers, panel boards, lighting, motor controls, VFDs, grounding and bonding systems, and fire alarm/life safety systems.
• Troubleshoot electrical systems using voltmeters, ammeters, meggers, thermal imagers, and related diagnostic equipment.
• Maintain NFPA 70E arc-flash compliance and OSHA jobsite safety; execute written lockout/tagout procedures per company policy.
• Direct, mentor, and verify the work of apprentice wiremen on-site.
• Maintain material tracking and as-built documentation for the foreman/general foreman (if required).

Position Requirements:

• Daily responsibilities as an Inside Wireman in an IBEW environment
• Classification: IBEW Inside Journeyman Wireman
• Primary Dispatch: IBEW Local 405 (Cedar Rapids) —
• Active Iowa Class A Journeyman Electrician Certificate of Competence issued by the Iowa Licensing Department, Construction Industries Division (CID)
• Also recognized:
  Reciprocal State JW license, IBEW Recognized license, and Iowa Class B License
• Reciprocal states accepted for Iowa Class A endorsement:
  Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Idaho, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Wisconsin, and Wyoming
• Reciprocity details and requirements:
• OSHA 10 required (minimum); OSHA 30 required for Foreman/Supervisors
• Current NFPA 70E
• Demonstrated ability to read and execute from commercial/industrial drawing sets
• Able to climb ladders and work from scaffolds, lifts, and man-baskets
• Able to work in confined spaces (attics, manholes, crawlspaces, electrical rooms)
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to project sites
• Must pass pre-employment drug screen per project-specific owner requirements
• Minimum age 18

Physical Requirements:

• Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs repeatedly over the course of a shift
• Stand, walk, bend, squat, kneel, crawl, and reach overhead for extended periods
• Work at heights (ladders, scaffolds, lifts) and in varied weather conditions
• Tolerate exposure to dust, noise, heat, cold, and construction-site environmental conditions

Per standard IBEW inside wireman bargaining practice, the journeyman furnishes a conventional hand-tool kit
