Overview
The Tactical Situational Awareness (TSA) group in the Tactical, Communications, and Maintenance Applications (TCMA) department is seeking a highly motivated Senior Software Engineer to join our team focused on innovation and the development of cutting‑edge products. This onsite role in Cedar Rapids, Iowa leverages expertise in software design, development, and integration to advance next‑generation avionics systems that enhance pilot awareness and operational safety.
You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver innovative solutions for precise decision‑making in complex environments.
- Design, develop, test, and integrate software solutions for Tactical Situational Awareness systems in avionics.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including systems engineers, hardware engineers, and product managers, to define software requirements and deliver high‑quality solutions.
- Focus on innovation by contributing to new product development efforts, exploring emerging technologies, and creating prototypes for future avionics systems.
- Develop algorithms and models for real‑time data fusion, visualization, and decision‑support systems.
- Ensure software meets safety‑critical requirements and complies with industry standards such as DO‑178C.
- Conduct performance analysis and optimization to meet system‑level goals for reliability, latency, and efficiency.
- Participate in Agile development processes, including sprint planning, code reviews, and continuous integration/delivery pipelines.
- Stay current with advancements in avionics, artificial intelligence, and related technologies to drive innovation.
- A STEM degree with minimum 5 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree with at least 3 years of experience.
- 5 years of experience in software development using languages such as Ada, Java, C++, Python, or Java.
- Experience in both embedded systems and hosted application software development.
- Experience with real‑time, multi‑threaded embedded systems applications, highly desirable with LynxOS and Power
PC architectures. - Experience working with Tortoise SVN, DOORS, Eclipse, and Atlassian tools (JIRA, JAMA, Bamboo, and Confluence).
- Experience with data processing, sensor integration, and human‑machine interface design.
- Experience with Agile development methodologies and tools (e.g., JIRA, Git, Jenkins).
- Experience with ARINC‑661 and CORBA, MIL‑STD‑1553 systems and Ethernet protocols.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and teamwork skills.
- Experience in identifying, communicating, and mitigating risks.
- Demonstrated capability in a fast‑paced, dynamic, creative work environment.
- Self‑motivated, enthusiastic, works well with others.
- Experience with DO‑178C or other safety‑critical software development standards.
- Background in machine learning, artificial intelligence, or advanced data analytics.
- Hands‑on experience with avionics systems, including flight displays, navigation systems, or communication protocols.
- Familiarity with innovation processes, such as prototyping, patent writing, or technology scouting.
- Parametric estimating and bidding experience.
- Project planning and Earned Value management experience.
