Senior Software Engineer – Next‑Generation Wireless Networking
Job SummaryCollins Aerospace, a division of RTX, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead the design, development, and integration of advanced resilient networking software systems and architectures. The role focuses on next‑generation wireless networking for contested environments, including MANET protocols, secure routing, and adaptive mesh architectures.
Responsibilities- Lead the design, development, and integration of resilient networking software and architectures.
- Manage and mentor small engineering teams (2–3 engineers) through design, build, test, and demonstration.
- Architect and drive execution across the full software lifecycle: concept, modeling, implementation, integration, field demo, and transition to product teams.
- Frame problems and translate mission needs into testable technical objectives; design and run experiments to iterate on concepts and implementations.
- Capture and document architectures, designs, test results, and lessons learned for reuse.
- Evaluate networking technologies such as MANET protocols, secure routing techniques, and adaptive mesh architectures.
- Contribute to proposals, white papers, technical briefings, patents, and publications.
- Travel up to 15% of the time.
- B.S. in STEM or equivalent; advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience (or 3+ years with an advanced degree).
- Minimum 3 years of embedded software development experience (C, C++, Rust, Python, Bash).
- Proficient with modern build systems (Make, CMake, SCons) and version control tools (Git, SVN).
- Experience with embedded Linux, networking stack implementation, or BSP development.
- Strong understanding of IPv4/IPv6, routing protocols, multicast, NAT, TCP/UDP, OLSR, OSPF, PIM, IPSec, VPN, QoS, and ACLs.
- Experience defining system‑level requirements and creating scalable software architectures.
- Preferred:
Master’s or Ph.D. in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field. - Active DoD Secret or higher clearance required; U.S. citizenship required.
- Experience with MANETs, Tactical Data Links, or distributed network systems; or experience integrating embedded software with FPGA/firmware systems.
- Strong communication skills and ability to convey complex concepts to stakeholders.
